Ignite your spark at the Greece Yoga & Adventure Retreat
Ignite Your Spark: Greece, at times, felt like the retreat that would never happen. Like a cold lavender towel it waited through years of reschedules and pandemic disruptions until this June.
Well before sunrise, in the light of a full moon, we met at the Athens ferry dock for the beginning of what would be an unforgettable week.
Nine hours outside of Athens lies a virtually untouched island home to four thousand locals, forty thousand goats, and one beautiful yoga retreat center. Notable for its open sandy beaches, wild meandering trails through the mountains, and significant lack of crowding and over tourism, Amorgos welcomed us all for a week of yoga, sunshine, and adventure.
Our studio for the week was an open-air Shala overlooking the brilliant blue bay below for our twice daily practices and time spent bonding over deep questions and silly jokes.
Outside of the yoga classes and workshops we hiked, swam, toured the island, relaxed, and even rode donkeys!
Sometimes things get lost in translation like the length of a hike or the exact timing of a meal, but the beauty of exploring other countries lies in the space between what you expect and what you get. Planting our feet on foreign soil reminds us of the importance of experiencing other cultures and highlights how very much we are all alike. The opportunity to do this with groups of friends and students makes each moment even more special and creates connections that we all get to take home, even though they don’t fit in our carry-on bags.
